Even in these social-distanced days, we keep in our heads a map of our relationships with other people: family, friends, co-workers and how they relate to each other. New research from the Center for Mind and Brain at the 51�Թϱ��, Davis, shows that we put together this social map in much the same way that we assemble a map of physical places and things.

Social networking, even between competing species, plays a much bigger role in ecology than anyone previously thought, according to three biologists at the 51�Թϱ��, Davis.

“There’s mounting evidence that different species pay attention to each other in the wild, especially if they share predators,” said Mike Gil, postdoctoral researcher at 51�Թϱ��. “The theory of ecology has lagged behind.”
